5 Steps to Prepare Your Vehicle for Spring

5 Steps to Prepare Your Vehicle for Spring

Spring will be here before you know it. After the winter season, it’s important to do a little routine maintenance to ensure that your vehicle will be in good condition for your spring and summer road trips, as well as a regular work day that includes shuffling the kids off to soccer practice. By following the tips below, your vehicle will be good-to-go for spring.

1. Washing your vehicle’s undercarriage.

Regardless of whether there was a lot of snow this winter, the road salt used can have a devastating effect on your car’s underbody. Rust and corrosion can also wreak havoc on parts your car needs to perform properly. Regular car washes can easily solve this issue, provided the wash option you’ve selected includes the cleaning of your undercarriage.

2. Give your car a good spring cleaning.

Along with the undercarriage, washing the rest of your vehicle from top to bottom and cleaning the car inside and out (including removing trash and other debris) can make a big difference.

3. Replacing your wiper blades.

Wiper blades can take a beating during the winter season. Replacing your vehicle’s wiper blades in order for them to effectively wipe away spring showers is important to do for the sake of visibility.

4. Checking your tire pressure.

If your tires seems to be running low on air, filling them up to the proper pressure is best for your vehicle’s proper performance. Check your owner’s manual if you aren’t sure of how much air your tires need. Correct tire pressure can help to save your car from unneeded wear and tear and can save you money in the long run by increasing your vehicle’s gas mileage.

5. Topping off fluids, if needed.

You should check the levels of your antifreeze, oil, transmission fluid, washer fluid and any other fluid reservoir that your vehicle has. If fluids need to be replaced, top them off as soon as possible. You should also check for any leaks. If you discover a leak, it’s a good idea to pay a visit to your local auto repair center for a diagnosis of the problem.
